Titanes Phorever jet unveiled at Torrejon Air Base

McDonnell Douglas RF-4C Phantom CR.12-46/12-55 formerly USAF 64-1070, has received a striking new paint scheme at Torrejón de Ardoz airbase in Madrid.

The scheme pays tribute to Ala 12, 123 Escuadrón, which was formerly based at the airfield and with which unit this jet flew. Previously with the Kentucky Air National Guard’s 165 TRS/123 TRW, it arrived in Spain in January 1989 to boost the Spanish Air Force’s reconnaissance capabilities – the Spanish had been operating four RF-4Cs since 1978.

The repaint was completed in time for a 123 Escuadrón reunion held at Torrejón on September 30. It also received the appropriate motto ‘Titanes Phorever’ (‘Titan’ was the squadron’s callsign), along with a unit badge on the tail. ROBERTO YÁÑEZ
