American engine maker, General Electric (GE) Aviation, has commenced construction of its new 3,312sqm warehouse facility located within the Da Vinci precinct at Brisbane Airport in partnership with Australian commercial and industrial building firm, Tomkins.
The building will also include a 2,028sqm two-level office and a 1,284sqm workshop.
More than 20 GE Aviation and Tomkins delegates visited the site for the breaking of ground ceremony on a project that will provide more than 400 construction jobs until its completion in 2022.
Mark Gavioli, CFO of GE Aviation, said: “We are so glad to enter this new chapter with a significant vote of confidence in the future of our relationship with Brisbane Airport. We have been at the airport since 2005 and some of us standing here on our future warehouse site were at the original sod turning, so we are proud to bring in new employees who may still be here in 16 years.”
George Delibaltas, Brisbane Airport Corporation head of property development, added: “GE Aviation’s partnership with Brisbane Airport means a great deal to us as it is a long-lasting relationship that continues to go from strength to strength, and we really look forward to starting this next chapter together. We have a number of exciting projects underway across the airport, with our property assets under management portfolio exceeding $1.5 billion, including DHL, Qantas, Eagers Automotive, and many more.”
The project’s construction partner, Tomkins, is also currently overseeing Qantas’ new Flight Training Centre facility located across from the future GE site.
