Aeroplane Heaven has released the Grumman F3F-2 for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

In 1936 a special Grumman F3F-1 was built for Major Alford 'A' Williams, head of aviation for Gulf Oil Company and a well-known aerobatic display pilot. The aircraft was flown as a demonstrator for Gulf Oil (and Grumman) and appeared at air shows and military displays all over the US before World War Two.

Called Gulfhawk II and powered by a 1,000hp version of the Cyclone engine, the aircraft displayed its aerobatic capabilities, speed and strength to great effect. The airframe was retired in 1948 and is on display in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

The package from Aeroplane Heaven features the Gulfhawk II as well as seven colourful liveries from pre-war fighter squadrons.

It comes with detailed exterior and interior models based on actual plans and drawings as well as a high-fidelity WWise sound package. Full PBR materials and textures include realistic 'pillowing' of metal surfaces.

The cockpit comes with many bespoke animations and effects along with an animated US military pilot figure. Other details included a realistic undercarriage and a choice of electric or cartridge start.

The aircraft sports accurate flight dynamics and performance based on acual flight tests and a custom code to simulate tail-dragger performance.
