How the Dambusters used Mustangs
One of 617’s pair of Mustang IIIs, showing its ‘Malcolm hood’ canopy. This image is generally cited as depicting HB837 being flown by Leonard Cheshire on his last sortie, to Mimoyecques on 6 July 1944, though it has also been described as taken on the aircraft’s first mission to Siracourt. There is no sign of the individual code letter ‘N’ that HB837 is said to have carried, at least on the port side as shown. J. SHORTLAND VIA P.
