The organisation believes all European member states should adopt the platform to help facilitate global travel

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has praised the European Commission for its delivery of the EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate (DCC).

The organisation is now urging international states to make this platform the global standard for monitoring vaccine documents.

IATA has outlined the benefits of the app, including its flexibility to be used in both digital and paper format, the QR code feature and its verification and authentication procedures.

“The DCC was delivered in record time to help facilitate the reopening of EU states to travel,” said Conrad Clifford, IATA’s deputy director general. “In the absence of a single global standard for digital vaccine certificates, it should serve as a blueprint for other nations looking to implement digital vaccination certificates to help facilitate travel and its associated economic benefits.”

Currently, the platform is being used in 27 EU member states. As a single global standard for vaccination documentation has not yet been decided, more than 60 countries are hoping to utilise the DCC for their own operations.

According to the European Commission, the software works in line with the latest World Health Organisation guidance, whilst being fully supported by the IATA Travel Pass.

The platform also operates outside of aviation-based facilities, including museums, sporting events and concerts.

Most recently, IATA announced that the DCC and the NHS Covid software can now be used in conjunction with its travel pass.
