As it geared up to celebrate its centenary in mid-May the National Museum of the US Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio completed the restoration of its Curtiss JN-4D ‘Jenny’, serial 2805. Acquired by the then US Air Force Museum from Robert Pfeil of Taylor, Texas, in 1956, the biplane’s service history is not known, but records show that Pfeil obtained the aeroplane from the US Army during 1926 and went on to ‘barnstorm’ it around Texas.

The ‘Jenny’ is the latest of several exhibits from the NMUSAF’s Early Years Gallery to be refurbished, the process having taken 16 months and involved a four-man core team. Having been stripped down and re-covered, the aircraft is finished as a JN-4 used for flight training by the US Army Air Service at Love Field in Dallas, Texas. It will be put back on public display later this summer.
