Lufthansa Group’s Jettainer is to provide global ULD management and maintenance services for Swiss International Air Lines for a further five years.
Jettainer will also provide ULD management and maintenance services to Swiss International Air Lines’ air cargo division Swiss WorldCargo, and affiliate Edelweiss Air.
The contract extension will see Jettainer replace more than 650 older AKE containers with lighter and more environmentally friendly ULDs. The new containers are around 16kg lighter per unit than their predecessors, delivering significant fuel reductions.
“ULDs can play a key role in saving huge amounts of jet fuel each year,” said Thorsten Riekert, chief sales officer at Jettainer. “Each kilo saved and every deadhead flight avoided counts.”
