Job opening: Assistant Editor – Digital (Historic Aviation)

We are looking for an Assistant Editor with strong digital skills to join our team. For 40 years FlyPast – Britain’s biggest-selling monthly publication dedicated to vintage aviation – has been at the heart of the ever-growing warbird scene, reporting on restorations and airshows, and offering in-depth historical perspective. Its sister title, Aeroplane, has been published for more than a century, while the recently launched www.key.aero is packed with fantastic digital content.

,

Working across the historic aviation portfolio, your primary role is to create, collate and upload content to Key.Aero, ensuring a steady flow of content daily. You will also:

  • Champion digital content creation, while also repurposing as much relevant historic aviation content as possible.
  • Learn to shoot and edit video and record audio material for podcasts.
  • Upload the historic aviation magazines to Key.Aero.
  • Plan, assemble and upload the Historic e-newsletter each week.
  • Mentor the team on Key.Aero’s CMS and production systems.
  • You will be required to attend planning meetings and visit air shows and events.

Your skills, knowledge & experience:

  • GCSE and, preferably, A Levels in relevant subjects
  • A knowledge of and interest in historic aviation, or an enthusiasm to learn about the subject
  • Knowledge of, or a willingness to learn to use, content management systems.
  • Good knowledge and use of written English and grammar
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure
  • An understanding of social media, including Facebook and Instagram

This role is ideally suited to a novice journalist with one or two years' experience, or a switched-on and energised, self-starter aviation fan with a desire to learn new media skills.

This is a full-time role based in our office in Stamford, Lincolnshire. Some weekend work and UK/foreign travel should be expected.
