KLM 777 makes emergency landing in Dubai

A Boeing 777-206(ER) of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flying from Bangkok to Amsterdam has diverted into Dubai.

The jet PH-BQL (c/n 34711), was operating flight KL876 and departed Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 12:10 local today (May 26). The airliner was scheduled to arrive at 19:10 local this evening at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, however while crossing Iran the aircraft changed course to divert to Dubai International Airport. According to flight tracking data, an emergency 7700 squawk code was observed shortly after its course change. The twinjet landed safely at approximately 13:00 UTC.

A press spokesperson from the airline told KeyAero: “Due to a technical issue flight KL0876 from Bangkok to Amsterdam has diverted to Dubai. The flight has been delayed for [an] indefinite time. Passengers are rebooked. Hotel rooms are arranged for passengers who are unable to continue their journey today. The safety of passengers and crew has not been compromised.”

The 17-year-old widebody – which is registered to the Dutch flag carrier’s Taiwanese subsidiary KLM Asia – is configured to seat 320 passengers in a two-class layout.
