Lake Michigan Grumman Wildcat restored for display
Staff at the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo, Michigan, have completed an 11-year restoration of Grumman FM-2 Wildcat 57039 (also see May 2024 issue of FlyPast). This aircraft sank in Lake Michigan on December 18, 1944, after skidding off the deck of USS ‘Sable’. It was retrieved in 2012 by A&T Recovery on behalf of the National Museum of Naval Aviation and the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation Tony Sacketos , To read more about World War Two, click here
