Lockheed U-2 Dragon Lady arrives at Hill Aerospace Museum

The Hill Aerospace Museum in Utah took delivery of Lockheed U-2C ‘Dragon Lady’ 56-6716 on March 27 2022.

Previously on display at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base’s (AFB) Warrior Park, in Tucson, Arizona, the former United States Air Force (USAF) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operated jet was dismantled and transported on a pair of semi-trucks for the 13-hour trip north to Hill.

Delivered to Laughlin AFB in Texas during September 1957 as a U-2A, the aircraft was transferred to the CIA in June 1965 and converted to a U-2C.

Transferred to the USAF’s Strategic Air Command in 1971, 56-6716 was withdrawn from use in May 1980 and ultimately ended up on display at Davis-Monthan. Once reassembled, the jet will undergo some remedial work before being place on public display.
