Messerschmitt makes first flight in over 75 years

Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 410077 – a former JG 54 machine – flew again in the hands of Steve Hinton on May 24 .

The flight is the culmination of around a decade of work led by Mike Vadeboncoeur at Midwest Aero Restorations in Danville Illinois. The project has been undertaken on behalf of the Messerschmitt’s owner, Dr Bruce Winter, who also owns North American P-51D Mustang Happy Jack’s Go Buggy.

The Bf 109 was recovered from a lake in the Russian region of Pskov around 30 years ago, and is believed to be 410077 which was flown on the Eastern Front in early 1944 with the Luftwaffe’s Stab IV/JG 54.
