The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare, is looking for donations to help it finish a new display hangar

The Somerset-based attraction recently acquired extra land including a 500m landing strip and events area – it has also partially constructed a new display hangar adjacent to the World War Two pilot’s block.

The new hangar will eventually house the museum’s Weston-built collection to complement the Weston aviation history displayed in the pilot’s block. However various issues, including a funding shortage, has forced the trustees to temporarily stop work on the project after completing the main structure and roof.

The museum estimates it will need another £90,000 to clad the walls and install doors and a new concrete floor – it’s appealing for donations to help it complete the work. Success will enable volunteers to relocate the two Bristol Belvederes and two Sycamore helicopters from the main museum, along with the Campbell Cougar gyrocopter and other smaller aircraft. This will make space for the EH101 PP8, recently transferred from the RAF Museum.
