Northrop Grumman Corporation recently opened its new Missile Defence Futures Lab (MDFL) in Huntsville Alabama. The company’s new MDFL is a pioneering change with a precision to develop, test and field an integrated missile defence system.
Northrop Grumman’s MDFL employs visualisation capabilities such as, comprehensive modeling, simulation, and the capability to foster both innovation and collaboration between developers and warfighters.
The MDFL will support missile defence system engineers with the development of tracking software to respond to nuclear threats as well as, research, modelling, and simulation. This via the MDLFs custom-built servers and the ability to process and relay data from both ground stations and missile detecting satellites.

Lisa Brown, vice president, missile defense solutions, Northrop Grumman said “Partnering with our customers, Northrop Grumman is leading the way as the defense industry undergoes digital transformation. With speed and agility, we can securely meet with teams across the country, start designing a product, share it with the customer and receive feedback in real-time, reducing the length of our product roadmap dramatically.”
The MDFL has a flagship location of Huntsville, but the MDFL is comprised of distributed facilities in multiple states of the US.
