Demand has been driven by easing travel restrictions and the increasing levels of vaccination

Norwegian has released its July traffic figures which show that 695,830 passengers flew with the airline, a 50% rise compared to the same time last year.

Total available seat kilometres (ASK) increased by 104% and revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) were up by 124% while load factors for July were 74.4%, a 7% increase compared to last year.

Despite the increases in capacity and demand the airline’s revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK) is estimated at 0.43NOK (approximately 0.03GBP), a decline of 29% from a year earlier.

Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian, said: “In July, we received the highest number of bookings since society closed down in March last year. Our customers have been aware of the exceptional circumstances and have been well prepared to meet rules and requirements for both domestic and international travel. Even though the pandemic is not yet over, we are experiencing a time of optimism which is great after such a long period of high uncertainty."

During July, Norwegian operated 33 aircraft and carried out 99.8% of its scheduled flights with an on-time departure rate of 88.3%.
