La medida adoptada a las 13.44 horas, responde al avistamiento de un presunto dron cerca del aeródromo.

Según un portavoz del aeropuerto, 12 aviones fueron desviados a otro aeropuerto mientras se investigaba el avistamiento.

"La seguridad de los pasajeros es la prioridad absoluta del aeropuerto y, siguiendo los procedimientos establecidos, las operaciones en Londres Gatwick se suspendieron temporalmente a las 13.44 horas", señala el comunicado. "Estas investigaciones ya han concluido y el aeródromo reabrió a las 1435".

Según Flightradar24, la mayoría de los vuelos afectados se desviaron a Londres Luton, mientras que el resto aterrizó en Stansted. Sin embargo, dos vuelos de easyJet acabaron en Bristol y Southend.

El portavoz del aeropuerto de Gatwick confirmó que esperan que muchos de los aviones afectados regresen hoy al hub londinense.

“Passenger safety is the airport’s absolute priority and – following established procedures - operations at London Gatwick were suspended temporarily at 1344,” the statement said. “These investigations have now completed and the airfield reopened at 1435.”

According to Flightradar24, most of the impacted flights diverted to London/Luton, while the remaining aircraft landed at Stansted. However, two easyJet flights ended up in Bristol and Southend.

The Gatwick Airport spokesperson confirmed that they expect many of the affected aircraft to return to the London hub today.
