OFMC Spitfire marks 80th anniversary at Duxford

The legendary Old Flying Machine Company Spitfire Mk.IX has reached a landmark ‘birthday’

The Old Flying Machine Company’s much loved Spitfire Mk.IX MH434 (G-ASJV) recently ‘celebrated’ its 80th birthday. Stu Goldspink was in the cockpit for a special flight from its Duxford home on August 7.

Built in 1943 this storied machine recorded two-and-a-half kills with the RAF’s 222 Squadron in whose colours it continues to fly. It also served with the Dutch and in Belgium after the war, and participated in the 1969 film Battle of Britain. It has been owned by OFMC since 1983, with its legendary status cemented by the spirited and evocative displays flown by the late Ray and Mark Hanna.
