RAF’s 6 Sqn opts for more traditional squadron badge for Typhoons

Eurofighter Typhoons of 6 Squadron ‘The Flying Can Openers’ based at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, have started wearing a different style unit badge.

Since the squadron re-formed on the Typhoon its aircraft have worn a blue shield outlined in red with the unit’s can opener logo, also in red, on the tail. A spokesperson for RAF Lossiemouth told Key.Aero that: “The shield was adopted in the Typhoon era for commonality.” However, since August last year the spokesperson said 6 Sqn has “reverted to the more traditional markings.”

This refers to a circular badge as worn, for example, by the squadron’s Jaguars, although the current iteration differs from that era by having a white background as worn by earlier types like the Canberra and Phantom. The squadron bar markings on the side of 6 Sqn’s Typhoons remain unchanged.
