Incredible in-cockpit footage released by Russia's MOD shows RAF Typhoons shadowing Russian 'Bears'.

On two consecutive days the RAF has launched Typhoons, supported by Voyager tankers, to intercept and shadow Russian military aircraft.

A press release from the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation relating to the sorties on February 2 stated: “Two Tu-95 long-range strategic missile carriers performed a planned flight in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the northeastern Atlantic Ocean.”

It added: “The flight duration was about 15 hours…Long-range aviation crews regularly fly over the neutral waters of the Arctic, the North Atlantic, the Black and Baltic Seas, and the Pacific Ocean.

"All flights of the aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces are carried out in strict accordance with the International rules for the use of airspace.”

However, information supplied to Key.Aero by the UK MOD differed in some respects with regard to the aircraft intercepted by the RAF: “The Russian aircraft types were two Tu-95 Bear H & two Tu-142 Bear F,” a statement read.

In relation to the February 3 intercept, the UK MOD stated that: “Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighters based at RAF Lossiemouth supported by a Voyager from RAF Brize Norton were scrambled today against aircraft approaching the UK area of interest. Subsequently, we intercepted and escorted two Russian Tu-95 ‘Bear F’ aircraft.”
