Severe turbulence strikes Singapore Airlines Boeing 777
A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-312ER, 9V-SWM (c/n 34578) with 211 passengers and 18 crew on board encountered severe turbulence en route to Singapore from London/Heathrow on May 20.One person died and many others injured as a result of the event. The pilots declared a medical emergency and diverted to Bangkok/Suvarnabhumi airport, landing at 1545hrs local time on May 21.The incident occurred around ten hours into flight SQ321, while the aircraft was flying at 37,000ft over Myanmar.
