Southend Vulcan to be opened to visitors

Visit the Vulcan Day returns for the first time in 2022 at London Southend Airport on April 24 giving visitors the chance to see Avro Vulcan XL426 up close.

Admission is £7 with under-16s admitted free. There is an additional charge to go inside the Vulcan’s cockpit.

Vulcan XL426 is owned by the Vulcan Restoration Trust, a registered charity that maintains the aircraft in full working order, although it is no longer airworthy.

The aircraft will be accessible to the public on April 24.

Although XL426 did not take part, other RAF Vulcans famously flew what were then the longest strike missions in history, over 8,000 miles, during the Falkland Islands conflict 40 years ago next month.

Vulcan Restoration Trust events manager, Jamie Keene, said: “As well as the Vulcan itself, we will have plenty more to keep the whole family entertained. There will be a display of fire engines, including one from the airport itself, which will have its water cannon in action at some point – so bring your umbrellas!

“Rayleigh Brass Band will also be playing during the day and there will a display of historic military Land Rovers, plus we will have Captain Marvel, Iron Man and Captain America patrolling the show ground to make sure everyone behaves!”

All money raised will assist preservation efforts on the V-Bomber. Gates open at 10am with last admission at 4pm. Tickets are on sale via the Trust’s website and on the gate on the day.
