Spanish Super Saeta returns to airshow circuit

A former Spanish Air Force Hispano Aviación HA-220 Super Saeta returned to the air earlier this year after lengthy restoration work

The aircraft which flew with the military as A.10C-107/214-107 now flies on Spain’s civil register as EC-IFJ.

Built in 1971 in Seville, it first operated with 214 Escuadrón at Morón de la Frontera Air Base. In 1981 when the type was withdrawn from service it was stored until auctioned in March 2002. New owner Club Acrobático del Mediterráneo made it airworthy again, but in 2011 the aircraft once again entered storage due to its high running costs.

In 2019 it was acquired by the A3H association, and has since become the third airworthy Super Saeta in Spain. This summer it has appeared at airshows at Motril and in Braganza, Portugal. A3H can also offer 45-minute passenger experience flights in the jet from its home base, Burgos.
