The American Airliner 1945-1965

Key Publishing’s Aviation Archive 64 chronicles the story of the American airliner between 1945 and 1965

As the prospect of Japan’s defeat became reality the US aviation industry turned its attention away from developing combat aircraft to producing a new generation of airliners. Among the designs that emerged were the ultimate piston-engined airliners – the Stratocruiser, Super Constellation and DC-7 – but by the mid-1950s the race was on to replace them with jet transports.

In time to mark the 65th anniversary of the first flight of the Boeing 707 later this year, Key Publishing’s Aviation Archive 64 chronicles the story of the American airliner in the two decades following the war. You’ll find it on shop.keypublishing.com, in WH Smith and independent retailers in the UK, plus overseas bookstores.
