A Cessna 172 with three people onboard has crashed in Lebanon's mountainous Keserwan district, 25 miles (40km) north of the capital Beirut, the country's aviation authority confirmed.
The single-engined aircraft - owned and operated by flight training firm Open Sky Aviation - departed Beirut airport on July 8 at 1330hrs local time, before crashing 20 minutes later in the village of Ghosta.
The flight had been destined for the coastal region of Jounieh-Jbeil, but soon began veering away from its pre-approved route. Local witnesses claim the area had become “very foggy” shortly before impact.
The nation’s minister of public works and transport has subsequently formed a committee to investigate the cause of the tragedy.
