USAF’s 305th RQS welcomes first Jolly Green II

The USAF’s 305th Rescue Squadron (RQS) – a component of Air Force Reserve Command’s (AFRC’s) 943rd Rescue Group (RQG) – joined the HH-60W Jolly Green II family on February 1 when the first aircraft (21-14521) arrived at Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona.

The first HH-60W Jolly Green II (21-14521) to be delivered to the 943rd RQG’s 305th RQS taxis across the flightline at Davis-Monthan AFB, following its delivery to the Arizona base on February 1.

Prior to receiving the Jolly Green II, the 305th RQS was assigned six HH-60G Pave Hawks, which have been operational since 1993. While the combat search-and-rescue (CSAR) unit reports directly to the 943rd RQG at Davis-Monthan, the group is itself a geographically separated unit of AFRC’s 920th Rescue Wing (RQW) at Patrick Space Force Base (SFB) in Florida.

In addition to the 305th RQS, the group is responsible for the 304th RQS at Portland ANGB, Oregon, and the 306th RQS at Davis-Monthan AFB. These units are both made up of combat rescue officers, pararescuemen and support personnel that are critical components of the CSAR mission.
