On February 22 de Havilland Sea Vixen FAW.2 G-CVIX ‘Foxy Lady’ was cancelled from the UK Register, and defined as ‘permanently withdrawn from use’
Previously operated by Navy Wings from RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset, the jet – originally XP924 and the last ever example of the naval twin-boom fighter to fly – was damaged following hydraulic failure in a controlled wheels-up landing at its home base on May 27, 2017.
Despite the charity’s sterling efforts to raise the estimated £2m needed to return the charismatic British jet to the skies, it was unable to meet its target. It announced last June that it had “reluctantly made the decision to stop investing vital funds into preparing her for flight” and offered “the Sea Vixen to a museum or private collection”.
