UK bookshop chain WHSmith has opened a 280m2 book shop and newsagent near the central security checkpoint at Cologne Bonn Airport.
In the new shops – WHSmith’s first at the airport – passengers will find a wide range of German and international reading material. Travel accessories souvenirs, toys and technological gadgets, non-alcoholic drinks and take-away snacks will also be available. A second, 210m2, WHSmith branch will open in the security area of Terminal 1 next week.
“We are delighted to open our first shops at Cologne Bonn Airport. They offer customised ranges for passengers in Cologne Bonn, but at the same time they are an important addition to our growing presence on the German market,” said Andrew Thomas, international business development director at WHSmith.
The shop in the public area of Cologne Bonn Airport will initially be open from 5am to 8pm. The opening hours of the shop in the security area will be based on flight schedules.
Worldwide, WHSmith operates more than 1,700 bookshops in more than 30 countries. At airports alone, the company operates more than 590 travel bookshops, including at Berlin Brandenburg, London/Heathrow, Atlanta, Singapore and Sydney.
