Those using the service are also able to connect to destinations such as Athens and Belgrade with the carrier

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has started operating a new service between the UAE capital and Bahrain.

The route is hoped to strengthen connectivity between the two Gulf countries.

The inaugural flight follows the announcement that fully vaccinated travellers arriving in Abu Dhabi no longer need to quarantine, which was outlined by the region’s emergency crisis and disasters committee.

“Today is an important milestone for us at Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, and we are pleased to mark the occasion alongside our partners – Abu Dhabi Airport Company (ADAC) and Bahrain Airport Company (BAC),” said Kees Van Schaick, managing director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. “The addition of the Abu Dhabi-Manama route provides a low-fare travel option for those wishing to fly the popular Gulf travel corridor. This new destination is the first route to be added to our flying roster since this week’s update to the travel guidelines regarding vaccinated passengers – it is an exciting moment for us all!”

Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, BAC chief executive officer, also added that the addition of the new route is “yet another indicator” that the world is beginning to recover from Covid-19.

It is hoped that both announcements will help the airport perform positively in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Those travellers from Bahrain are also able to utilise the carrier’s connections to Athens, Alexandria, Belgrade, Chisinau, Odessa, Sarajevo, Tirana and others.

The flight to Abu Dhabi is set to operate thrice-weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
