When I was in the Airforce cadets and visiting RAAF airbases, you frequently saw the fin and rudder of Mirages mounted out in front of the building.
It seemed like each one that crashed had it’s fin survive to be put on display!
On one tour we peered into a hangar through the window and there was a pile of scrap sitting in the middle of the floor. We were told that one of the landing gear lights didn’t illuminate so the pilot ejected. Apparently the crash investigation determined that the landing gear light bulb had blown. (An no, I didn’t remember seeing the rudder in the pile of scrap……).
Nice looking aircraft, interesting how small it was.
