Actually, it’s an ‘Akula’ class sub – at least to the Russians it is.

‘Typhoon’ is a NATO (ASIG) reporting name for it.

Confusingly, there is also a NATO Akula class – used to describe the Russian Project 971 ‘Shchuka-B’ (Pike)
