That’s interesting, I just read through the list and don’t see mention of the one which crashed near Newmarket Heath, and ended up right next to a house and completeley burnt out, but which did not burn down the house and in fact only appeared to cause minor superficial damage.
If memory serves me right, it was c1987 and I believe the two crew escaped in their pod which landed some distance away.

February 28th, 1987, F-111F 70-2418. Crashed in flames at Newmarket Heath, Suffolk, UK. I guess some cross-referencing needs to be done by the webmaster.

Back to the original question, a Google advanced search for ‘Selkirk’ on that site only brings up one incident:

1st November 1978
RAF Jaguar GR1 XX759 of 226 OCU. Did not recover from vertical dive. Crashed near Selkirk. Ecuadorian Student killed

Date is pretty near, as is location…?
