With the passing of Col. Bower there are now only 5 surviving Doolittle Raiders.
Maj. Edward J. Saylor – Engineer – Crew #15

If I may be allowed an update.
Saylor retired as a Lt. Col.
At the time of the misson he was, IIRC, a SSgt.
Doolittle’s autobiography lists him as a Sergeant and an Engineer-gunner.

I know that because he was a neighbor of ours when I was about 11 years old. In fact his son was my best friend.
Very nice man.
