Isn’t that always the way with parents? They never tell you anything about their past until it is too late, i.e. they have passed on. I have been doing my ancestry research for the past eighteen months and have been able to discover my father’s RNVR career and put it on the official RNVR website.

The one interesting story that he did tell us that early in his career, he sailed on a ship from Bristol to Glasgow and he was delegated as the radio officer. Every day the Captain would ask for any messages and Dad would reply no. When they arrived, the official radio officer joined the ship and showed Dad how to switch the radio on.:o
