We have established that some of the actual landing fields were rigged. As for the bomb storage areas, thats something I have not heard of. Would you have a potential explosive device already rigged, in an area where you would do your utmost to ensure there were no unwanted risks?.
This needs a WW2 armourer to clarify..that’s if they were even ‘in the know’!

there were many airfield in yorkshire whos bomb dumps were “rigged” including Rufforth and Tholthorpe to name but two apparently all the airfields in our county were assessed for their vulnerability to enemy capture and these were then “rigged ” accordingly i beleive the figure was approx 70% of a total of 90 airfields ,there were also similar detonation devices placed in the control towers and communications centres, somewhere there must be drawings of these devices and their installation etc 😎
