My condolences to the family’s involved.
But what i find absolutly disgusting is that the unit being attacked called in for air support, only to be told that it was committed elsewhere and it eventully turned up 2hrs later.
What ever your opinion on the troop comittments in Afghanistan be it right or wrong..surely the least they deserve is proper backup from air or land, which they clearly are not getting at the moment. And from what i have read in the newspapers, the MOD through the emergency procurement committee has ordered a batch of Armoured personel carriers from a company in Austria that will sell licences for them to be built in the UK for use in Afghanistan and Iraq. The first batch will be ready by late 2007, with the remaining arriving in 2008. But the real kick in the groin is that a company in Australia builds a vehicle along the same specs, and they can be delivered within 4-6 weeks!!!
I apologise to the mods for thread creep. but it really annoys me ( i would like to use stronger language) that after years of defence budget cuts, where things are being cut to the bone, that the goverment commits troops to war zones without the proper equipment needed to carry out there jobs (Lack of body armour, standard issue rifles that have well publicised problems-and the fix cost more money than buying in M16’s or Steyer AUGS, Radio’s that only work to “line of Sight” and communications carried out by Satphone or mobile phone)
