And in 1922,Nosferatu kicked off the vampire story……. ;)[/QUOTE]

See, I wondered whether to include the 1922 Nosferatu (which itself was remade back in 1979), since it wasn’t a “proper” version of Stoker’s Dracula story – unlike the 1931 Bela Lugosi version, which had much more in common with the novel.

In case some of you don’t know, Nosferatu was basically an unofficial film version of Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula, and because the film-makers could not get the rights to the Stoker material, they made their own version, changing the characters and settings to something a little more German. But, someone noticed the similarities between the two stories, so Stoker’s widow ordered all prints of the German film destroyed – but some copies of it slipped the net and survived. It’s even available on DVD these days!

But, as I said, since it’s not a “proper” retelling of Stoker’s story, in keeping characters and locations essentially similar, I wasn’t sure whether to include this and the subsequent 1931 Dracula at all (although, since the character is supposed to be Dracula, you could include it….)
