If you feel that you must retain Win7, have you considered the possibility to “dual boot”? That is to say to install both XP and Win7 and choose between them when you start up?

Just out of interest, how do you do that?

I have the same problem as RR but with a HP scanner, it will basic scan ok but won’t do any of the extras such as editing and slides scans etc.
