We will see many airlines place follow up orders now because the delivery slots are selling out faster then anything boeing has seen with widebodies . Right now the main problem is that boeing has large orders to come , DL has publically said that it would soon order upto 100 787’s , AA also has about that many aircraft it has to replace and then there is UA . Also BA and LH will have nice sized orders ( about 25-30 plus options) and there is EK which can place upto 100 orders . Even if 1 or 2 out of the 4 non Boeing airlines ( not committed to buying boeing only) ie. UA,BA,LH,EK go for the 787 thats close to 50-60 orders right there , inaddition to something upto 200 for the big 2 US carriers so we could come up with a situation whereby boeing before the end of the year sell out production uptil 2015-2016 or so even with the increased production post 2011 .
Qantas wont be the largest operator for too long , wait till DL and AA orders . And god forbid if boeing build a 787-10ER which is to the liking of EK then the flood gates would open 🙂
