Tanker rescued 19 persons from crash landed Super Puma

The “Nord Nightingale” on Oct 22, 2012, rescued 19 persons from a crash-landed offshore helicopter off Shetland. No one was injured in the crash landing or the subsequent rescue operation. The helicopter was underway from Aberdeen to an oil rig 86 miles from Aberdeen, when it was forced to make an emergency landing. Two minutes after the emergency landing was made, the helicopter sent distress signals which were received by the “Nord Nightingale”, which was a few miles from the crash landed helicopter and immediately changed course to approach the ditched helicopter. The tanker launched its MOB boat and reached the accident site a few minutes later.
