As for the point of the survey itself…its so that statisticians (yes, that is a word/job title before anyone asks!) can gather data to gauge how many people travel to/from the UK by air, what country they are coming from, how long they are staying in the UK for, and what the purpose of their trip is (business or leisure!). It is this probably this data that forms a small part of the evidence that is used to outline the need for the proposed expansion of the airport!

In the case of being a UK citizen, I agree with Andy as I do not see the point in asking them, however, the person doing the survey at the time would not know whether you are a UK citizen until he/she asks if you can spare a few minutes to answer the survey!
