I couldn’t tell you when, however I believe the new technologies within ATC equipment and Transponder equipped aircraft, the visual identification of the individual aircraft was no longer required as were in the 50’s and 60’s.

However, I would say the vast majority of European carriers still continue the practice of carrying markings underwing.
