If the report is an accurate account the inescapable conclusion, from the implication that the pilot knew on final there was possibly going to be a problem, is that it was some combination of problem with brakes / flaps / props, all of which involve hydraulics.

I understand your concern, but my inference reflects no discredit on the pilot and was comment on the news report, not idle speculation.
