After 9 11 in the US, if the plane had any Americans on board, they would probably jump up to help the crew, figuring the bad guys were going to do the plane in anyway!

Seems those that want to do bad and evil things always find a way to do their deeds…

When my dad flew in Central and South America for Pan Am in the late 40s and 50’s (DC 2’s, 3, 4’s etc) they carried .38s and blackjacks in their flight bag due to political unrest in the area and hijackings.

In reading some books on Pan Am, I learned that Pan Am had a code for pilots in the politically unstable regions. If a certain flag was flying at Pan Am’s Operations, a coup was underway, and the plane bypassed the airport…
