Thank you for your advice i will give it a go with caution at the weekend, a real shame that they were painted but going by yours it does appear that the original finish can possibly be rescued.

Of a matter of interest what did the ebay seller list it as? did you ever find its identity if not via the number itself?

Mine was apart of a garden fence so like you say there were more and not of one aircraft, at least that clears that up.
