We did have a good look around the area though we weren’t absolutely sure of the exact location of the Curtiss factory. What does still exist is the older Mercury Aircraft plant whose construction began during WW2. The company is now in newer premises on the outskirts of town. During the war they produced, among other things, P-40 tail assemblies, fuel tanks and C-46 parts such as rudder pedals and undercarriage legs. The 10000th P-40 tail assembly is displayed in the Curtiss Museum-
