just for information- the 1st raid was split into 2-

1st Schweinfurt raid 17/8/43. 36 lost.
7 Cat.E
118 damaged.
362 MIA.

Regensburg. 17/8/43-
24 lost.
1 Cat.E.
50 Damaged.
200 MIA.

2nd Schweinfurt. 60 lost.
17 Cat.E.
138 Damaged.
594 MIA.

That’s why the 2nd raid was labelled Black Thursday, the losses were that bad the 8th did not mount another raid till the 20/10/43, the positive from it was that the long range “little friends” came into being, so the P.51’s with drop tanks escorted on deep penetration missions, without having to turn back and leave the bombers.
