“BOMB-LADEN ‘PLANE CRASHES
With load of bombs beneath his wings, a R.A.F. bomber
pilot was about to attempt a landing in a park at Ipswich
when he saw children playing there. He at once changed his
course, narrowly missed houses in the main street, skimmed
between two chimneys, and over the roof of the town’s
power station and then crashed into the River
Orwell. Men in a boat rescued the three
occupants, one of whom was taken to hospital badly injured.
It was a wonderful piece of work on the pilot’s part.
said a police officer last night.”
