K9993 went to the Purfleet Heritage Centre. I remember us dealing with Richard Smith the curator. Still on display there I believe, but it’s been years since I visited. We had quite a bit of this aircraft, including a fair bit from the cockpit. The shell holes in the armour plate stick in my mind. I recall being told that P/O Assheton had no desire to be re-united with the remains of his aircraft.

Probably just as well he didn’t…he would have seen just how lucky he was to bale out. Even I couldn’t get that engine running again!
