Indeed -there seems to be a perception that Air Atlantique moved base frequently . The reality is the collection was established from 1985 at Coventry. In anyone’s book nearly thirty years. As to visitors to Newquay / Cornwall -the collection closes for the winter in October . I am sure that will allow for exhibit maintainance and refurbishment.
In all of the discussion on Airbase / Classic Air Force – the reality of how to keep a collection of classic aircraft together and make them pay for themselves seems to be lost on some. Mr Collett has been a businessman for a long time and I am sure the investment in time and money to make the Newquay move is considerable. Would he do this on the basic that it wouldn’t have a chance to succeed -I very much doubt it!
I’m inclined to agree. Everything I’ve read/heard about him seems to indicate a good buisnessmman with the sense to learn from his mistakes of which I imagine there may have been one or two.
