generaly no becouse when you demask you are left with and edge of primer beneath the top coat colour. Not to bad with light colours but on dark stuff it shows up. As long as the surface your painting on is sound,clean and free from any deep scratches then all is reqd is a light sand with either 320 or 400 grit wet n dry type sandpaper or some of the red scotchbright, then apply the top coat colour..

If spraying? then give a semi light coat 1st followed by a heavier wet coat once the 1st coat has gone tacky after a few mins, this should cover any colours underneath, if not then give a 3rd coat but by this time it should be more than enough . If rolling? then try to do it in one good coat by criss crossing until your happy you have an even amount of paint overall.

After applying the paint try to remove the tape nearest the edge of paint whilst its still wet as this will let the paint “” fall down “” at the edges and give a smoother edge when dry, try not to do it when tacky as this sometimes pulls and stretches the paint beyond the masking line edge and gives an uneven edge..
